Oktoberfest Costumes’ Hidden Rules
The Oktoberfest in Munich just started and besides the beer there are many other reasons to go: The Oktoberfest outfits for example! They look great on girls (called Dirndl) and, well, sometimes OK on guys (called Lederhosen). But what’s much more important is that these costumes carry an important message about the owner. Since I am from Germany and these facts are well known here, I cannot let you go on your next Oktoberfest without these facts:
Every traditional Dirndl for women has an apron (ribbon, German: Schleife) and by the position of the apron you can tell whether the wearer is single, in a relationship or even married! I have absolutely no clue who came up with this idea but I find it genius. Why is this system not applied outside of the Oktoberfest in the real world and throughout the entire year? It would make certain things a lot easier…Well, we gotta go without for now but keep the following rules in mind before visiting the next Oktoberfest:
Costume with apron on the left means: Single
Costume with apron on the right means: In a relationship or married
Costume with apron in the back means: Widow
Costume with apron in the center means: Virgin (not really used anymore)
There you go, you have actually learned something useful today ;-) You may now take lots of pictures from your favorite Oktoberfest outfits or even create a Slideshow from them using our beloved Stupeflix Studio.
PS: There are also some security risks involved when attending the Oktoberfest. You may therefore want to watch this presidential advise first.
